You could build a mobile home on the ocean, but what if you could build it underwater?
Well, you can.
Nowhere is this more apparent than in the latest episode of the popular TV series, The Great Indoors, in which the show’s creator, John Dorney, uses a water-powered mobile boat mechanic to build his dream underwater home.
This time around, Dorney is using a submarine-based design and it’s the first time he’s built a mobile watercraft-powered house from scratch.
“We’re talking about something that’s almost as futuristic as the underwater submarine,” Dorney told Digital Trends.
“What we’re building is a floating, floating, underwater home that we built underwater for a couple of years.”
So you have this whole boat with a couple thousand people in it.
What we did is we got a submarine that had a lot of power and a lot more speed, and we added some water pressure and a bit of cooling.
“Then we got this whole set of underwater appliances that are really powerful and efficient.”
The underwater home Dorney and his crew built was designed for a family of six to share and to stay underwater for up to a year.
“We wanted a structure that was going to be capable of holding up to six people at a time, but we wanted it to also have the capacity to go underwater for two days and return,” Dyer said.
The result was a boat that could be used for both indoor and outdoor living.
“In order to make the house that I was going for, I actually wanted to use a lot less water than I did to do it.
The reason is that if you take the water out of the water, it will evaporate in about 30 minutes,” Doody said.
Dorney’s design is one of many that are being built by the underwater-based homebuilder.
Another underwater home, built by Dorney’s team, uses an underwater boat mechanic as well as an underwater pump.
“A lot of the underwater home builders are building houses that are very small,” Doricy said, adding that underwater builders can also build “really massive structures”.
“There are a lot that are underwater that are going to last for a long time,” he said.
The underwater house, however, is a different story.
It’s powered by an electric motor and a water filtration system, and is designed to be waterproof and capable of staying underwater for six months.
“I did this because I didn’t want the underwater house to be anything other than the most basic thing,” Dolasaid.
Doricy and his team have been building the underwater underwater home for about two years.
“[I] didn’t really want to build anything out of concrete and a metal house,” he explained.
